Educators are urged to go vote in Tuesday's runoffs

Many Texans have an opportunity tomorrow to cast votes in runoff elections that will help decide the future of public education. Several high-profile races are on runoff ballots tomorrow for seats on the State Board of Education and in the Texas Legislature. Turnout is expected to be very low, which creates an opportunity for the education community to be a deciding force in these elections simply by using the power of numbers to turn out voters to the polls.
The Texas Educators Vote coalition, of which ATPE is a member, is also urging eligible Texas educators to vote in tomorrow's runoff election. In a message to other coalition members, the Texas Association of Community Schools wrote this morning that educators should "think how much easier it would be to get our schools funding, meaningful assessments, and shorter deeper TEKS if we elected people who are ready to fight on behalf of students, educators, and public schools as a whole."
